the creation OF The Cotton Gin
Before Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin, seeds had to be manually taken out of cotton. On average, it would take 10 hours to remove seeds in the picked cotton for just one pound of lint. With Eli Whitney's invention, the cotton gin did the work of several slaves in one day, in just an hour.
The cotton gin was made out of a wooden box with a handle and two drums with wired hooks attached to it so that it could separate the seed and the lint. One of the drums brushed the lint off the seed and the other brushed the lint off the hook. This machine took the seeds out of cotton rapidly by just simply turning the handle on the gin.
